“The ISTAF is the oldest athletics meeting in the world and at the same time one of the most popular and modern ones. It has constantly evolved and set trends. This innovative and occasionally rocky path would not have been possible without the great partnership with Spielbank Berlin over the past ten years,” says ISTAF Meeting Director Martin Seeber. “I would like to thank those responsible and the entire Spielbank team from the bottom of my heart for the many years of partnership and I am very pleased that we will continue this extraordinary cooperation in the years to come.”
Gerhard Wilhelm, Spielbank management spokesman: “As a committed supporter of Berlin sport, it is a particular pleasure for us to have been able to promote a beacon of athletics and so many great sporting moments with the ISTAF for ten years. Sport needs a stage, especially in these challenging pandemic times.”
To mark the special anniversary, the ISTAF organizers, together with Spielbank Berlin, are inviting refugees to the ISTAF on September 4, 2022. Up to 500 people will have free admission. Gerhard Wilhelm: “With this campaign, we want to enable people who have had to flee their homeland to enjoy a carefree afternoon of sport and set an example for peace.”
Compact on a Sunday afternoon, around 120 world-class athletes will compete in top-class disciplines at the ISTAF on September 4 in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium.
